PAC Meeting Minutes - Jan
In attendance:
Carolyn Latu, Lisa Cheung, Bonnie Wong, Alaric Wang, Lily Wong, Christina, Olivia Or, Samantha Shaw, Tiffany Zhou, Miranda Xin, Amanda McIntosh, Brendan Walker.
Meeting began at 8:45am
Welcome and Introductions:
- Lisa welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked everyone to introduce themselves. A sign-up sheet was passed around at the same time
Presentation by representatives from West Richmond Community Center:
- WRCC wanted feedbacks and opinions on the programs they offer at the center
- They left some brochures at the school office for parents who are interested
Administrative Report (by Ms. Latu):
- Grade 4 & 7 students are scheduled to do their FSA’s
- Get Wet Program for Grade 6 & 7 students
- 40’ Storage Shed will cost the school $5400 & will be placed along the outside wall of the gym
- A Wowk family has donated $2000. This donation will be used to help cover the cost of the storage shed
- Picnic Tables – waiting for dry weather to pour concrete
PAC Secretary Position:
- Nobody has stepped up to fill the position
- Lisa will send an email home via parents stating the official duties of the position in hope that someone will offer to volunteer
Financial Report:
- Current balance on Gaming Account is $5842 & General Account is $14874
Report on Past Events:
Winter Celebration
- Parents feedbacks were shared
- Good turnout by families
- Great support from parent helpers
- For future, PAC will need more set-up time the night before, the morning of & some time after the Christmas sing-along
- In summary, the event needs more organization
- Photo with Santa raised $126 which helped bring the overall cost down to $434
- Wowk Giving Tree displayed during the celebration raised $159 for the Richmond Food Bank
Teachers Gift Baskets
- Teachers were happy with the gifts
- PAC apportioned $153 as a token of appreciation
PAC Webpage Update
- Request sent through Ms. Latu to forward to district technology team to re-arrange appearance of PAC webpage, improve navigation and add elements for better content management.
Gift Card Fundraising
- Profit of $781
Upcoming Events:
Dance Lessons
- January 19th, 20th & 26th, with performance scheduled for 2pm on the 27th
- Chinese folk dance taught by Vancouver Academy of Dance
- 3 days lessons + performance will cost $3075, including GST
Chinese New Year Snack Party
- Friday, Jan 27th, after recess, in Multi-purpose room
- Volunteer sign-up sheets will be printed & sent home
- Potluck style or $5 contribution
Sushi Lunch Day – Tues, Jan 31st
- Online Cash Payment ONLY
- Notice will be sent home with Sushi Lunch dates for the rest of the school year
- Items offered are: California Roll ($4), Cucumber Roll ($4), Teriyaki Chicken Rice ($5), Teriyaki Beef Rice ($5), & Juice box ($1)
- Div 7, 8, & 9 will have their sushi order delivered to class by parent helpers
- Div 1 to 6 will retrieve their sushi order in the pods
SWAP Meet
- Clothing Drive – April 18th to 21st
- SWAP Meet – Saturday, April 22nd, 10am to 1pm
- Arrange for Big Brother to pick up items not sold on same day, at 3pm
- ITEMS accepted : Children’s apparels, Books, Games, Puzzles, Toys, Accessories, Winter & Rain boots, Outerwear, Small appliances, Electronics
- Items are donated by Wowk families, sale opens to the neighborhood.
- Balloon Twisting Table to sell pre-made items such as dog, flowers, swords, headpieces
- Items will be grouped together by price: $1, $2, $3, $5, $10
- If weather permits, held in staff parking lot; Gym as backup plan
- Will advertise: Posters in Community Centers & Public Libraries, Facebook Van & Rmd Moms Groups, Big signs/posters on Street corners (the Friday afternoon before SWAP)
Movie Afternoon & Cookie Dough Fundraising Events
- No time or need to raise money
The meeting was adjourned at 10:40am with Lisa making the motion. Alaric second. All in favor.
The next PAC meeting will take place at 8:45am, Wednesday, February 1st, 2017.
