Staff Inquriry and Collaboration Time

During the 2018-2019 school year, staff were provided with collaboration time and during this time they worked together as pairs or in small group and focused on an inquiry question of their choice.  Below are some of the inquiry questions from staff.

If students are able to identify their emotions, how might this help them problem solve or help them to self-regulate?

  • Multi-culturalism and how it helps our connection to story and place.
  • Flexible learning environments.  When students are given choice and voice in where and how they learn, how does this impact their learning?
  • Communicating Student Learning—When students are offered different ways of presenting and sharing their learning and understanding in the classroom and through the use of e-portfolios, what is the impact on their understanding?
  • Shifting the library from a space with books into a learning library commons—what does this look like?  How might this increase student engagement?
  • Inquiry—what does this look like in the classroom?  Helping students to ask questions, their own questions to help guide their learning.
  • Building independence and Inclusivity through Literacy.

During the teacher’s collaboration time, students worked in family teams—in 2 groups, so approximately half of the students one week and half the other week.  We worked on building community by having the older students work with younger students in leading family teams activities like:  gratitude, acknowledging others, sharing and caring, understanding how each student in one piece of a much larger puzzle.
