Final post for 2017-2018

Over the course of the past year staff at Jessie Wowk have worked diligently as a team to help increase the sense of community, connection and belonging among our students, between staff and students and our community as a whole.  Over the course of the year students, staff and families have taken part in a variety of activities either as a whole community--students, staff and families, students together or staff and students together.  Some of the activities included:  Family Teams activities monthly that are planned by the staff and delivered by the grade 5 6 and 7 students, Global Play Days where students must play with eachother without the use of electronic devices or adult guidance--truly play initiated and done by children, with children.  Staff and students using the outdoors more frequently as a learning space, as a place to just be and as a place to play and learn.  Our PAC has provided numerous opportunities for students to extend their learning through movement via two dance residencies, visual arts in clay and paint and an opportunity to play and learn badminton.  PAC also creates opportunities for us to come together as a community to share in each other's company by organizing our Winter Celebration and a school-wide lunch buffet for the Chinese New Year Celebration.  The overall goal has been expanded to build a sense of community and connection with each other and to also connect with our place.
