PAC Meeting Minutes

In attendance:

Carolyn Latu, Lisa Cheung, Bonnie Wong, Alaric Wang, Olivia Or, Winnie Leung, Samantha Shaw, Marissa Han, Brenda Niu, Sylvia Tam, Carl Chen, Varun Talwar, Lu Liu, Tiffany Zhou, Catherine Zhang.

Meeting began at 8:45am

Welcome and Introductions:

  • Lisa welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked everyone to introduce themselves.  A sign-up sheet was passed around at the same time  

Approval of the last 2 Meeting Minutes (May 10, 2016 & Oct. 5, 2016)

  • Motion:Lisa, Second: Alaric. All in favor, approved

Approval of the Meeting Agenda (Nov. 2nd, 2016):

  • Motion:Lisa, Second: Alaric. All in favor, approved

Financial Reports:

  • PAC General account has a balance of $11880
  • Gaming account has a balance of $8540
  • PAC Gaming Grant was approved on Oct 5th and $4660 was deposited to Gaming account
  • Year-to-date pizza sales has raised $1415
  • Hotdog day on Oct 7th raised $259
  • Spirit wear orders totaled 92 t-shirts
  • Grad hoodies orders totaled 32 sweaters

Reporting on Past Events:

Clothing Drive

  • 91 bags were collected
  • $227.50 was raised

String Lights

  • PAC has invested $116.39 in 8 sets of lights (6 white & 2 colour) to be used for pumpkin displays & Winter celebration

Upcoming Events:

Dance Lessons

  • January 23rd to 25th, with performance on the 26th
  • Chinese folk dance taught by Vancouver Academy of Dance
  • 3 days lessons + performance will cost $3075, including GST

Art Lessons

  • November 21st, 23rd, & 25th
  • 3 days lessons taught by Janice from 4Cats, at a cost of $2700, including GST
  • Div. 1, 2, 3, & 4 will be painting during their 1.5 hours lessons
  • Div. 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9 will be producing polymer clay projects

Christmas Sing-Along/ Winter Celebration

  • Need to establish a WC Committee to coordinate volunteers
  • Santa Photo
  • Photo booths
  • Purpose of Celebration: community building or fundraising
  • Snack table – Ms. Latu will apply for Tim Hortons to bring in “coffee truck”
  • Snack/Drinks table to serve seasonal treats & hot chocolate
  • Arts & Crafts table – to make props for use at photo booths
  • Teachers are invited to participate with their families
  • Many parent volunteers are needed to take shifts so they too can enjoy the celebration with their families

Traffic Safety Committee

  • Speeding is a problem on Woodwards Road & within the parking lot
  • Steps to prevent injury/collision:
    • Parent volunteer will record the license plate number of offenders
    • Repeated offenders will receive warning letters from School Constable, Jason Pickering & ICBC
  • Possible monetary fine & deduction of points from ICBC
  • PAC to send out an email to families with a step-by-step instruction on morning drop off procedure

Movie Afternoon

  • Candice to coordinate
  • RDPA has offered to purchase the license on the school’s behalf to receive the discounted price of $0.75/student.  We will participate with the group purchase
  • Event will take place after school hours with babysitting by Grade 7 Leaders Group
  • Entry fee, snack & drink for a fee of $5/student
  • All proceeds will go to a charity

Website Updates

  • Add PAC link address onto the 2 bulletin boards
  • Add section with past PAC donations & Graduation classes’ legacy gifts
  • Anne Chen has helped with compilation of list of donations

Food/Veg/Milk Program

  • Contact info & Food Safe Certificate holders on website has been updated to Lisa, Jane, & Sylvia
  • Proposed Alaric & Tiffany to enroll in the Food safe Course when RDPA sponsor it again

Other Fundraising items

  • Gift Cards - Christina is heading and order forms will be going home the week of Nov 7
  • Cookie dough - Brenda showed interest to help. Details will be worked on.

Topkids Child Care

  • Rental agreement is between the Richmond School Board and TopKids
  • PAC’s main concern is that Topkids needs to keep the PAC kitchen clean and in good order

Administration Report by Carolyn Latu

Storage Shed

  • with TopKids utilizing the multipurpose room, stacks of folding tables and chairs have been moved to the south pod - posing a dangerous situation for students.
  • A shipping container to be installed outside the multipurpose room has been proposed.
  • Will cost $4000 + $250 for installation
  • Varun will look into having a used one donated to the school

B.C. New Curriculum

  • Ms. Latu & Bill Chow hosted a 1 hour session to explain the new curriculum to parents present

Open Discussion

  • Fencing lessons - Possible fencing lessons coming early June 2017. Thank you Samantha for bringing it to our school.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:40am with Lisa making the motion. Alaric second. All in favor.
The next PAC meeting will take place at 8:45am, Wednesday, January 4th, 2017.
