PAC Meeting Minutes

In attendance:
Carolyn Latu, Lisa Cheung, Bonnie Wong, Alaric Wang, Lily Wong, Varun Talwar, Anna Lau, Samantha Shaw
Meeting began at 8:45am
Welcome and Introductions:
Lisa welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked everyone to introduce themselves. A sign-up sheet was passed around at the same time
Approval of Meeting Agenda: all in favor, approved
Approval of Meeting Minutes (November 2016 & January 2017): all in favor, approved
Reporting on past events:
VAD Dance Lessons & Performance
- Parents & Teachers gave very positive feedbacks
- Teachers said it was “the best dance lessons (the school) ever had”
- Youtube videos sent out by PAC was very well received. Allowed parents who were unable to attend performance to view the show.
- Letter of Appreciation will be sent to Anabel (Vancouver Academy of Dance)
Chinese New Year Snack Party
- Party was on budget. $520 raised & spent
- 900 dumplings were made. THANK YOU to all parents helpers.
- In attendance were District Secretary Treasurer Mr. Mark De Mello & District Assistant Superintendent Ms. Kathyrn D’Angelo
Sushi Lunch Food Day
- First Sushi Day on January 31st went smoothly. More fine-tuning is in progress.
- Staff order sheet will be provided for teachers in future Sushi Days
- Other Food Days are suggested. Eg. Samosas
PAC Secretary Position
- Thank you Anna Lau for volunteering to take up the position of PAC Secretary for the remaining school year.
Financial Report:
- Current balance on Gaming Account is $5842; Dance lessons have not been paid for yet.
- General Account is $16314
Upcoming Events:
RCBC Baseball Winterball Program
- Lessons week of Feb 6th to 10th
Yard Sale Fundraiser
- Cause -- Basketball Court Upgrade
- Sat, Apr 22nd, 2017 -- 10am to 1pm
- Following week of Clothing Drive (Tues, Feb 18th to Fri, Feb 21st)
- Advertising -- door to door flyers, posters, signs & handouts to be posted in Community Centers, Public Libraries, Grocery Stores, Street Corners & Neighborhood.
- Items to sell -- Children Apparels, books, toys, puzzles, games, small appliances, electronics, outerwears, accessories & sports equipments
- If weather permits, will take place in Staff Parking Lot
- Gym as backup plan
- Items will be grouped in $1, $2, $3, $5, $10 tables
- Each table will collect money for items sold at the table
Morning Traffic Control Update
- Situation is better but still need volunteer to help keep parking lot safe

Food/Veg/Milk Program
- Program is working well
Administrative Report (Carolyn Latu):
- Extra Funding from Ministry of Education allow school to bring Mrs. MacNeil in for extra support every Wednesdays & Mrs. Bath for every other Wednesdays.
- Grade 4 & 7 students are preparing for the FSA
- In the coming school years, FSA’s will be given to the students in the beginning of Grade 4 & 7, rather than in the middle of the school year.
- Outdoor Education -- May 2nd to 6th
- May 2nd to 6th
- $379/ student for 4 days & 3 nights
- Coach to transport students to and from the campsite will cost $1617
- Grade 6 & 7 students & their parents have raised over $3000
- 6 Children from Div 1 & 2 need financial assistance to help cover cost
- Ms. Latu has applied & gotten funds to help lower cost for these 6 students
- Parents for students going to the Outdoor Education Program in 2019 can start fundraising in April 2017
Open Discussion:
- TD Bank is accepting application from local community to receive a $1000 donation
- Anna Lau will get more information about “free baseball equipments”
- Dynamo Fencing is scheduled to come to school to give fencing lessons at a cost of $4/student
The meeting was adjourned at 10:40am with Lisa making the motion. Alaric second. All in favor.
