Welcome to the community of learners at Jessie Wowk Elementary!
Jessie Wowk Elementary School was officially opened on November 26, 1992. It has a current student population of about 230 children as an English Kindergarten through Grade Seven elementary school. The school neighbourhood includes single family houses and townhouses. It is located in West Richmond, close to community amenities.
At Jessie Wowk Elementary, we have high standards and expect the best from each child by providing experiences that enable each learner to achieve their personal best. As a school community, we recognize that children are individuals and that learning thrives in a safe, caring and stimulating atmosphere.
We believe that successful learning is a partnership between parents, teachers and students. Parents are encouraged to be actively involved with their child's learning. Along with staff and students, each has a shared responsibility. The dedicated staff at Jessie Wowk Elementary strives to enrich the love of learning by developing the whole child. Students are expected to take responsibility for their actions and their work. Our commitment to work together in shaping the future will advance each child's growth.
The school staff and School Planning Council have established two specific goals for our school:
- Jessie Wowk students will strive to become strong and positive citizens of their classroom, their schooland their community.
- Students will increase their understanding when reading for meaning in non-fiction texts at all grade levels; they will be able to write about what they have read, making connections to the text.
For more information about our school goals, please refer to our School Performance Plan
Our school is an active and involved school. Students are invited and encouraged to participate in athletics, Fine Arts experiences and leadership activities. Our students also enhance their sense of social responsibility by serving the community through a variety of activities and events.
We look forward to a challenging and productive year with mutual support in achieving each learner's potential.
