  • Pizza days are back on, we should see a bit more activities in March

Pizza Day

  • Orders are slowly coming back up
  • PAC were talking about purchasing gift cards directly from Fresh Slice with 20% discount
    • Put that on hold because of uncertainties around pandemic
  • Bought $2000 worth of gift cards

    • We were able to lock in buying up to $6000 worth of cards down the road

  • Person is asking for honorarium, sharing with PAC and school of $200 in total
  • Value of these music sheets are in thousands

Extra Curricular Ideas

  • Bouncing ideas on what we can do towards end of year
    • Opening that up to everyone to see if they have ideas
    • Hiphop dance, K pop dance, other sports like tennis, badminton, fencing, ultimate
    • We are thinking for after spring break
  • - Will open this to the staff as well to see what ideas they have
    • Maybe supplement PE programs, or dance
    • Look at what Track and Field looks after the break. We’ve missed for 2 years now (for Gr 3 and up)
    • Will try to find a nice balance for teachers
  • - Sports Day
    • Ms. Gustafson and Ms. Teng are thinking of Sports Day for school
    • PAC in the past have brought in food truck, and M&M Meat Shop do BBQ

Mural Project

  • Date has not been set for unveiling yet

Outdoor Ed

  • Planning for 2023 Outdoor Ed kids
  • Default location is Cheakamus Camp in Squamish
  • The earlier we can pay deposit to secure camp is better
  • Normally outdoor ed is something that is over 2-3 days and we have transportation cost for kids
  • Last year, we were able to do it over 1 day, but hopefully can bring it back to its full capacity next year

Principal’s Admin Report

  • -Looking at different ways to connect with families, and different times of day
  • What is happening in Ukraine
    • Happening in conjunction of pandemic
    • See how this is impacting our students and having some conversations with our kids
    • Thinking of mental health of students, and anxiety, and how we can help each other
    • Chances are students are going to be talking about this in the school
    • Hope to help develop mentally how to have conversations with this
    • Some things we will talk about:
      • Mindful of biases and how people’s level of understanding influence how your child thinks
      • Understanding issues with multiple perspectives
      • Stick to the facts, based on overview of what is happening (e.g. based on an article)
      • This is not how everybody in this country acts, don’t demonize people
      • Giving kids the opportunity what they can do, or how they can help
        • This is where the conversation comes in, e.g. fundraising, advocating
    • More to come and important for school staff to take on this work
  • All students received 5 rapid test kits
    • Ask students to hand those to parents/guardians right away from backpack
    • Instructions to use is in an email with links
  • Mural
    • Mindful of, and have timely unveiling
    • We cannot have gatherings so far, but spring would be a better time to do it, and hopefully by that time we can invite more families (after Spring break)
  • Report Cards
    • Parent Portal is a means to provide information and reports to parents, using MyEd portal
      • In March, will not receive hard copy of report card
      • Parents need to log in to MyEd portal space and access report card digitally
      • Province is really supporting the use of MyEd portal
      • Pros: Saves a ton of paper, and ensures it gets directly to parent, and can access even if they are away
      • Cons: Learning how to get there, passwords
      • If parents have no access to a device, they can request a hard copy from the school
      • Any questions, please call the school
      • Important is a conversation with the family first, and important to talk as a family about the report card
      • Using paper report cards, might be a tricky situation if all students get all the report card at the same time, then it might become a “public” situation
        • With MyEd, it is safer for the students to have a conversation with their family about the report cards first
  • Volleyball
    • Two terms because successful
    • May explore basketball in 3rd term
    • Thank Mr. Woo and Mr. Angman to enable volleyball
  • K to 12 Protocols
    • Moving forward, we can start opening our doors a bit more and having families in the school a bit more
    • Before only individuals that come in directly to help students are allowed, e.g., Speech and Language Therapist, Counsellor
    • Now we can invite more people in
    • Parents: If you are looking to talk with your child’s teacher, please call the school and make an appointment
      • Make sure mandatory health declaration
      • Going to only your designated spaces
      • Sign in when arrive at school
    • We can now have school assemblies and school events
      • As a staff, working through this to see how to do this safely
      • More info to come
    • Parents did tremendous job in supporting kids to following K to 12 protocols; and proud of staff
  • Conferences
    • Thank you for connecting with your child’s teacher
    • For most teachers, this conference used to be student led, but some teachers went to do 1-on-1
    • Some teachers may be holding off a little bit, and maybe doing it in a different manner, like doing it outside (different teachers have different comfort levels)
    • Appreciate everyone’s understanding and flexibility with that
  • Track and Field
    • Haven’t done this for 2 years
    • We are in the better spot, but don’t know if there will be district track meetings
    • In the past, schools spent 3rd term learn, and then having competitions in Track and Field at Minoru
    • Don’t know if it will happen in that scope and scale, but we do know we can still take on the learning with students
      • Can still do Track Attack and learn about the sport of Track and Field
    • We can do possible school competition or partner with 1 or 2 schools for smaller competition
  • Sports Day
    • Potential for June, might be able to invite families
    • More to come
