End of Year Student Survey

At the end of the school year we wanted to look into if / how our Wowk Cares language was a making a difference in the experiences of our students since we began our school wide focus last year.

It has been two years since we gathered data from our students through a survey and we wanted to provide an opportunity for our students to answer some of the same questions and compare the results to when they first participated. We were curious if our student responses would show growth and improvements in their social emotional learning and if our efforts were making a difference for our learners. This year all students in grades 2 - 7 answered the following questions:

  1. Can you name two friends in the school that you can trust your feelings with? (yes or no)
  2. How many adults in the school do you feel believe you will be a success in life? (none, one, two, three, more than three)
  3. Do you feel you belong here in your school community of Jessie Wowk Elementary? (yes, no, sometimes)
  4. What do you need from your school that will help you build meaningful friendships? (open ended responses)
  5. Where are you going with your learning? (open ended responses)
  6. How are you doing with your learning? (open ended responses)
  7. Where are you going next with your learning? (open ended responses)

This year we did include questions in the survey that also addressed how our students were feeling about their academic learning. We were curious if their responses may indicate that, in addition to social / emotional learning, we need to continue to help our students in developing foundations in literacy or maybe even numeracy.

As a staff we are going to take a deeper dive into the survey results and see how the information help shift or guide our focus for the 2024 - 2025 school year. Some of the survey results can be found in the attached document and we will share more about our understandings and wonders from the survey results in an upcoming post.
