Caring for Self in Our School
For this activity we wanted to take an opportunity to listen to our students and find out what they felt Caring for Self looks like in our school.
Our intermediate students visited a variety of tables that had an image of either a place or moment that they might access or experience in their school day. This included the playground, hallways, assemblies, classroom, etc. Their task was to brainstorm ideas for the different ways that we could Care for Self in that space or in that moment.
For our primary students, our grade 6/7 students in Division 2 led small group discussions and recorded what our primary students had to share when it came to Caring for Self in these same places and / or moments. They moved from station to station and shared their ideas with our intermediate leaders doing an exceptional job in being encouraging and caring toward their younger peers. We thank them for their leadership.
The ideas shared by our students have been collected in the attached document with the most common answers being recorded. The documents have also been put on display in our hallways. Please see the attached document for more information.
Our hope for this exercise is that it will give the students an awareness of the importance of Caring for Self during the school day, what it looks like, as well as some excellent suggestions for decisions that will help them be their best self. We also will be using the student ideas and suggestions as part of our Wowk Cares matrix that is currently being developed. More to come!
