Ten Days of Caring
To celebrate and acknowledge the importance of Pink Shirt Day, the staff here at Jessie Wowk took planned a very interesting event for our school community called Ten Days of Caring.
Over the course of ten days leading up to Pink Shirt Day, staff kept their eyes and ears open to students who were demonstrating caring behaviours towards others during the school day. They then wrote what they noticed on a heart that included the students name and a description of what they saw and placed it on our Caring Tree that was on display in the hallway. It was a very heart warming experience to see how the tree grew, the amazing assortment of ways that students demonstrated positive social behaviours towards others, and how the students responded to having their names on the wall.
We then concluded Ten Days of Caring with a celebration of the growth of the Caring Tree during our Pink Shirt Day assembly on February 28th. Our grade 6/7 student leaders created a video that included reflections from students about how they felt about both the Ten Days of Caring and our Wowk Cares school common language.
We continue to be very proud of the ways that our students show how they care for self, others, and this place and our Ten Days of Caring event help support our students' awareness of how their positive social behaviours are helping create a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment for all.
We would like to express our gratitude toward Mr. Ray, Ms. Skiba, and Ms. Huang for their hard work in organizing this wonderful event for our school and to our whole staff who all took to the time to name and identify the ways our students showed care throughout the whole ten days.
