PAC Meeting Minutes - Jan 2022

Welcome and Attendees

  • Alaric welcomed everyone to the first morning scheduled online PAC meeting.

Financials

  • End of Dec, no activity in Jan so far
  • Financials looking OK
  • $12,000 in revenues, doesn’t take into account some invoices not been paid yet, or cheque not cashed yet ($2000 still pending) 🡪 $10,000 revenues 
    • Pizza day raised $4000
    • Movie tickets sales and gift card sales 
  • Expenses at $4000, big one is outdoor mural
  • Balance sheet has $20,000 in general account, about $8000 in gaming, $3000 in gift cards
  • Ticket sales made around $700, Spirit Wear $300
  • All fundraising quite successful, esp. gift cards which got $25000 sales (like non-pandemic year)

Food Days - Alaric

  • Suspended in Jan because of safety
  • Hopefully can get food days started again, because we are not in a worse shape compared to Nov 2021
  • Planned to have sushi day added to our Jan schedule, and adjustments have been made to Munch a Lunch in Dec, hopefully can get back to like before
  • Policy is consistent throughout the district
  • With the exception that there are hot meal programs are being provided for families that need it

Mural

  • Kids have been working on this late last year and everything designed and created already, now waiting to be installed (want community to be involved)

Outdoor Ed - Bonnie

  • Trip for Gr 6/7, happens every 2 years
  • May not be good idea to have fundraising right now
  • Talked to parents before, can do Krispy Kreme because it should be safe (can bring $300-$500)
  • Can explore other options such as freezes, movie nights, etc. 
  • Mr. Daum will explore the Health and Safety of the ideas and connect with Bonnie
  • Can the gaming account be used? If not able to use this year, can carry over to next year
    • May be able to use it for something outdoors, like Ultimate in late spring
    • Applied for next year’s grant already

Admin Report – Chris Daum

  • Lots of fun things still happening in classrooms, despite COVID, which is positive
  • Thank families for the flexibility during the first week of Jan 2022
    • Went through fine details on health and safety protocols
    • What enhancements are needed
    • Looked at physical design of classrooms
    • Structure hand washing schedules
    • How we move around the school, how we minimize contact, etc.
    • Spent a lot of time to plan if we have to pivot to functional closure (e.g., high absentees or staffing concerns)
      • Have learning ready-to-go and to be shared with family
    • We haven’t experienced some of the concerns that we thought might happen, but those plans are ready
    • Proud of the hard work of the staff over that 1st week
  • Additional safety protocols
    • Limitations on how many people can access the space in the building
    • How to move in hallways
    • Sign up for spaces (e.g. pods)
    • Looking at how we design learning opportunities in the classroom (not sitting face to face)
    • Floor markings in the classrooms 
    • Signage in classroom as reminders
    • Keeping health and safety protocols and how to emphasize these
    • Allow as much distancing as possible while learning in their classrooms
    • Doors and windows are open all the time
  • Updated Daily Health Check that came with Wowk News last week, and flow charts
  • Parents have had questions on when the kids can return to school
    • Note that these are guidelines, as school is not medical professionals
    • If you have questions, go to health practitioner or call 8-1-1
  • If develop symptoms at school
    • School will contact parents and ask them to pick up the kids
    • Do offer gargle and spit test at school, happened at Spring 2021, then will send to Life Labs
  • Grade 6/7 Ski Trip
    • Carried on and the students have greatly appreciated it, extended learning
    • Thank teachers in organizing this 
  • Play volleyball at Lunch for Grade 6/7, and will continue with this
  • Discussion about what basketball is like, but could potentially be done outside
  • Math Club on Thurs is proceeding for Grade 5-7, good to see kids engaged 
  • Hot Lunch
    • Paused for a short bit of time, wait-and-see period
    • Tough because it is successful fundraiser, and kids love it
  • Staffing updates
    • Ms. Wong, move to become early childhood educator, wish her all the best
    • Hired Ms. Rana, she was a social worker beforehand, and does tremendous job already
    • District has additional 0.4 Educational Assistant time (2 days) and Ms. Davidson is the successful candidate 
      • Role of EA is someone who works collaboratively with both classroom teacher and resource teacher
      • Go through a diploma program, and educated on how to work to support student learning
      • Hours are different and requirements on the job is a bit different than teachers
    • Div 7, Ms. Conway, contract to end at the end of this term 🡪 Plan for Ms. Yan to return
  • Mural
    • All the pieces are done in the mural
    • Strong connection to spring time, so good to unveil then
  • Parent Teacher Conferences
    • Mid-Feb is student-led conferences
    • Teacher will talk to us about what it will look like
  • Pro-D Day on Friday
    • Staff spent time connecting in the morning and looking at successes in welcoming students back
    • Determine what else is needed to support students (diversity, numeracy, etc.) and what resources are needed
    • Later in the day, staff gathered to pursue different areas of their interest
  • Mid-Year Student Learning
    • Division 5 Ms. Tang: Report will be available on Feb 11
  • Food and Veggie Program is also on hold right now
