City of Richmond has received numerous resident concerns regarding the idling of vehicles in school zones while parents are either picking up or dropping of kids for school. City of Richmond will be addressing this situation through the social media and with City officers educating parents while doing their daily patrols at the schools. Idling is a violation under the traffic bylaw 5870 Section 12.15.1 and carries a fine of $75.00, and doing so is not sustainable or saving the planet.
No person shall cause or permit a vehicle to idle at any one time:
* For more than three minutes unless queued with stopped traffic in the travel portion of the street; or
* While unattended.
